Designing for

2023 Pratt Legends Award

It was a precious opportunity for me to take on a journey of designing this prestigious award with a group of board members from design to fabrication.

About 2023 Pratt Legends Award

On Thursday, November 9, Pratt Institute will present Legends 2023. The annual scholarship benefit pays tribute to icons of art, design, and architecture and serves as a fundraiser for scholarships that prioritize diversity, inclusion, and equal access to education. This year, three distinguished Pratt alumni—celebrated furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue, visionary architect Edward Mazria, and renowned artist Kay WalkingStick—will be honored at the historic Weylin in Brooklyn.

The Legends Award Design

The form of the trophy emphasizes on the negative space created by the three volumes, which represents a communication of light through space.

Started this summer, I was invited by professor Dana to participate in this journey.
There weren’t any moments where I stopped generating new, innovative ideas for this award…

After talking to the manufacturer, I realized that my understanding of materials and their impact was different from our situation. We need to take into account how materials connect, the cost, and the time it takes to make them.
